Spring is in full swing! Do you know what that means? It is the season of Japanese Cherry Blossoms. The word for Cherry Blossom in Japanese is Sakura, so I will refer to Cherry Blossoms as Sakura for the remainder of this article.

So What Sakura?
Sakura is very important to the culture and people of Japan. There aren't Sakura trees all over Japan just because they are gorgeous. There is a lot of symbolism in Sakura for the Japanese people. Throughout the rest of this blog, I'll cover the importance, the traditions, and some recipes about Sakura.
Importance of Sakura
Sakura means a lot to the Japanese people. They're not just pretty flowers – sakura is a part of who the Japanese people are. They are even Japan's national flower. You'll find them everywhere in Japan, from currency to clothing and even at festivals. Sakura reminds the Japanese to cherish life in the moment and to appreciate their existence.
And when those blossoms start to bloom, it's like a whole new beginning. Winter's finally over, and spring is here with all its fresh starts and possibilities. Seeing those delicate petals in full bloom? It fills the Japanese with hope like everything's going to be okay, you know? It's almost like nature's way of saying, "Hey, it's all good. Better days are ahead." You can check out a more in-depth article about Sakura here.
Sakura Traditions

The annual Sakura viewing, or hanami, is a cherished custom where people gather with friends, family, or colleagues to appreciate the beauty of the blossoms. Hanami represents a time of celebration, renewal, and the arrival of spring. People will gather in parks, have a BBQ, and will enjoy the scenery of the Sakura around them. If you want to join the Hanami, you can check out the best places to view Sakura here.
